Guy La Ferrera and Tim Beasley
For the past 36 years, Guy La Ferrera Italian Clothing in Boca Raton has been the place to shop for stylish, sophisticated menswear for discerning customers of all shapes and sizes.
The reasons for the business’ longevity and popularity are its focus on employing top talent – staff members are previous store owners; some have worked as custom specialists for other top designers – and an emphasis on personal attention.
“We owe our success to customer service and sticking to quality,” explains Tim Beasley, a principal and son-in-law of owner Guy La Ferrera. “The difference between shopping here and shopping at the mall is that the knowledge base is here. As far as custom clothing, designer brands and the amount of fabric that you can select, we offer more variety.”
Specialty stores like Guy La Ferrera Italian Clothing carry not only mainstream brands but also artisanal labels.
“We’re more successful with fashions that are timeless and with a little bit of flair,” Beasley points out. “We have capable specialists to help customers design what they want – or a wide variety off the racks.”
And Guy La Ferrera Italian Clothing now has an online business (started in March 2016), Gent Row, which ships designer products (like Agave, 34 Heritage, Eton, Giorgio Armani and Santoni) all around the world.
It all began when Guy La Ferrera Sr., an Italian-trained custom tailor who had owned his own shop in Rome since age 20, retired to Florida in 1972. He soon became bored, though, and opened a small tailor shop in Palm Beach. In 1982, he convinced his son to join his business. Together, the two started selling ready-to-wear clothing.
“We pursued relationships with the best designers, such as Brioni, Zegna and Canali,” says La Ferrera. “We built the business focusing on quality clothing that was lightweight enough to wear in Florida all year long.”
These days, Guy La Ferrera Italian Clothing is carrying on the family tradition of designing Italian clothing in Boca Raton.
“My son-in-law has apprenticed with me for the past six years to learn the intricacies of making custom-tailored suits and shirts,” La Ferrera says.
In an age where everything is homogenized, Guy La Ferrera Italian Clothing prides itself on accommodating men of every dimension.
“In addition to having one of the largest selections of ready-made Italian European clothing, we specialize in custom-fitting individuals of different proportions, whether you’re big, tall or short,” La Ferrera says. O
