COVID-19 has impacted every aspect of life and the same applies to the legal arena. Tammy Saltzman has seen that firsthand at her law practice. The founder of TBS Law PA in Boca Raton, she practices both family law (dissolution and paternity) and real estate law (residential and commercial).
She has seen a large increase in divorce cases. “It appears that as soon as people get the freedom from a vaccine to get back into the world, they want to go back out single,” she says. “They wanted to get divorced yesterday. They’re extremely fed up.” She says the rise in divorces is typically linked to the stress caused by COVID-19. “People are confined to a home with someone that they might not have liked before and now they can’t stand them.”
Those going through a divorce or who are already divorced are also impacted as it relates to their children. Parents fight about school, vaccines, travel and mask wearing, she says. “COVID has caused people to have different beliefs,” says Saltzman. If a parent is unemployed or furloughed, they may argue about child support or health insurance. “It’s an ongoing battle of coparenting that has ensued because of the pandemic.”
As a family lawyer, Saltzman passionately helps families settle their issues as amicably as possible. Prior to law school, she worked on real estate closings as a paralegal and realized that real estate transactions often happen during divorces. “Real estate and divorce seemed to go hand in hand,” says Saltzman. As a result, she founded a law practice combining the two fields.
Saltzman, who experienced the hardship of divorce both as a child and an adult, feels her empathetic and compassionate ways are why you should choose her for legal representation. “I’m more about making a difference than I am about making money,” she says. “It’s who I am as a person.”
She’s been taught to give back since she was young, reading stories to nursing home residents as a young girl. “My whole life I’ve been taught to be grateful and that I should give back to my community.”
