Internationally recognized for his expertise in treating shoulder disorders, Jonathan Levy, M.D., chief of orthopedic surgery at the Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute in Fort Lauderdale, has established Holy Cross Hospital as one of the top destinations for shoulder replacement surgery in the country.
Dr. Levy prides himself on utilizing the latest technologies in shoulder surgery, offering patients opportunities to participate in four recent FDA trials and access to countless cutting-edge techniques and solutions in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery.
“I am committed to cutting-edge research and evidence-based orthopedics as this is what helps me consistently improve patient outcomes,” says Dr. Levy, who has written more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles. “Our research registry is tracking close to 3,000 of my shoulder replacement patients. It is remarkable what you can learn by studying outcomes!”
As a testimony to his commitment to innovation, he has played a critical role in the design of the latest anatomic and reverse shoulder replacements and is currently part of design teams that will produce implants to help manage fractures of the clavicle, shoulder and elbow. He lectures around the world, educating surgeons on performing complex shoulder surgical procedures, and has served as program director for the Holy Cross Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship for the past eight years.
Dr. Levy performs close to 350 shoulder replacements a year and is now the highest-volume shoulder replacement surgeon in the country.
“It’s clearly shown that improved outcomes and avoidance of complications are directly related to how often you do the procedure,” he says.
With his long history of clinical research, academic achievement, and national and international lectures, Dr. Levy has defined Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute as a tertiary referral center for shoulder and elbow problems.
For his commitment to innovation and management of shoulder arthritis, he was recently named Orthopaedic Surgeon of the Year by the Arthritis Foundation.
