One of the nation’s top vascular and endovascular surgeons, Joseph J. Ricotta, M.D., MS, DFSVS, FACS, has earned numerous awards for his trailblazing work in the field and has extensive training and experience at prestigious institutions, such as Yale University, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Oxford University, Cleveland Clinic and the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Ricotta provides a full spectrum of advanced vascular and endovascular clinical services for patients with aneurysms, carotid and cerebrovascular disease, stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, peripheral artery disease, varicose veins and many other conditions.
He is an innovator in endovascular robotic surgery and minimally invasive techniques. He was the first surgeon in the United States – and one of the first in the world – to perform endovascular surgery using a robot. He was also the first surgeon in the U.S. with FDA approval to create and implant custom stents for high-risk patients with aortic aneurysms. He is a pioneer in the treatment of carotid disease, becoming the first in Florida to perform the TCAR procedure and the first in the Southeast U.S. to perform Venaseal for the treatment of venous insufficiency.
Along with providing advanced treatments for vascular and endovascular disease, Dr. Ricotta is involved in research and education. He has written more than 200 professional publications, been an investigator in dozens of clinical research trials and has given hundreds of lectures on vascular surgery both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Ricotta is also dedicated to teaching and mentorship. He is a professor of surgery at Florida Atlantic University, the program director and founder of the FAU Vascular Surgery Fellowship and a site director of its general surgery residency program. He imparts his vast knowledge and experience to young medical students, physician assistant students, surgical residents and fellows, leading training workshops on advanced endovascular surgical techniques for other doctors and surgeons from around the globe.
