Pain Management, Longevity, Age Rejuvenation
As the renowned Japanese author Haruki Murakami once said, “Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.” This philosophy holds true when it comes to managing musculoskeletal pain, such as back, hip, knee or shoulder pain. Fortunately, Vitruvia, a specialized regenerative medicine clinic in Miami Beach, offers a nonsurgical solution that can help individuals live pain-free without the need for invasive procedures.
Used by life coach and entrepreneur Tony Robbins, biohacker Dave Asprey and boxer Mike Tyson, RELIEF® (Real-time Echo Located Interventional Epineural Fibrolysis) is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical approach for healing and pain management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. RELIEF® treatment aims to eliminate scar tissue and restore healthy connective tissue. “When your body isn’t optimally aligned, it compensates by creating scar tissue,” says Aimee Kamat, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Vitruvia. “Over time scar tissue can adhere to muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves, causing decreased mobility, pain, and often neurologic symptoms such as sciatica, burning, numbness and tingling.” She says this process can occur due to trauma, injury, normal aging or repetitive motion/overuse (like golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow).
The number of sessions needed depends on the specific clinical issue being treated as well as your body’s reaction to RELIEF® and your individual goals. Most patients need just one round of treatment, says Dr. Kamat. The duration of results also varies depending on the patient. Dr. Kamat will treat any kind of pain but at present doesn’t address pain in patients with metal implants or screws in the affected site (such as with joint replacement). “This treatment is like none other,” she says. The needle, which is used to inject placental proteins, is inserted superficially (never going inside a joint) below the skin (into the connective tissue) with the patient fully awake. Local anesthesia is given to the areas being treated, and dynamic ultrasound is used to assess the areas of scarring and guide the treatment. “We’re breaking up scar tissue and remodeling it so healthy connective tissue can be restored. We’re doing it at a level that no one has ever looked at. It’s an investment in longevity.”
Dr. Kamat served as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine from 2008 until 2020, when she joined Vitruvia. Prior to her faculty role, she completed both her research fellowship and residency in anesthesiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Kamat began her clinical career as a Registered Nurse at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, specializing in pediatric burns and reconstructive plastic surgery.
