“Settlements are much more cost effective, faster and we can be more creative versus what a judge can order,” says Brian Karpf, firm shareholder and Florida Supreme Court certified family law mediator. “A judge is not allowed to order certain things that you can agree to in settlement.”
However, Karpf adds, “We can be as amicable or as aggressive as our clients need or the other side makes us be. It always pays to try to settle, but I’m also a litigator and will do what it takes to protect my clients and obtain a fair outcome.”
Karpf is a Florida Bar Board Certified expert and specialist in family law and a member of prestigious legal organizations, including the elite American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He was elected as chairman-elect of the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section and will be its Chairman next year.
Karpf said the most rewarding part of his job is helping clients move past a deeply emotional part of their lives.
“I tell clients, ‘Let me be your stress relief. You don’t need to be nervous. You don’t need to be angry — let me be that barrier for you,’” Karpf said. “We are very responsive and reachable. If a quick phone call, text or email with a worried client can help them feel better and enjoy their night or weekend, we do it.”
The firm is a tech-savvy, using the latest software to expedite legal matters and make the process more cost and time-efficient for clients.
“What make me feel good about the practice is helping individuals start the next chapter of their lives. It’s a very dark, scary and difficult time,” Karpf said. “You’re dealing with personal issues and real human emotions, and I’m there to help them start the next chapter of their lives.”
