Never Again

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will host its 2019 "What You Do Matters" South Florida Dinner on Jan. 29 at Boca West Country Club in Boca Raton.

The event will honor Holocaust survivors from South Florida with the Elie Wiesel Award, a distinction recognizing their individual contributions to Holocaust memory and education. It's the highest honor given by the museum.

"This year, we are honoring our cherished local South Florida Holocaust survivors for their resilience, courage and commitment to Holocaust memory and education," says Robert Tanen, director of the museum's Southeast Region. "We have all learned so much from their wisdom, their stories and from their inspiring strength and hope."

Chaired by Shelley and Craig Menin and vice-chaired by Marla and Steve Garchik, the event is expected to welcome more than 750 guests, who will enjoy dinner and hear from featured speaker Daniel Greene, historian and curator, "Americans and the Holocaust." This new exhibition is a portrait of American society that shows how the Depression, isolationism, xenophobia, racism and antisemitism shaped responses to Nazism and the Holocaust.

The event supports the museum's $1 billion comprehensive campaign, Never Again: What You Do Matters. The museum is making critical investments to keep Holocaust memory alive as a relevant, transformative force in the 21st century.
