A Positive Impact

Local Educators Chosen For Gutterman Family Outstanding Holocaust Educators Awards

Three local educators were chosen for the 2020-21 Gutterman Family Outstanding Holocaust Educators Awards.

The awards, given by the Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Family Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education at Florida Atlantic University, recognize educators who have demonstrated a positive impact on their schools and the community in the field of Holocaust, genocide and human rights education and honors individuals who, by their example and through teaching about these difficult subjects, strengthen South Florida students’ world citizenship and capacity to uphold the dignity of all persons.

This year’s recipients are Broward County Public Schools’ Louise Ball, School District of Palm Beach County’s Amanda Ladd (Eagles Landing Middle School) and Susan Prieto (Equestrian Trails Elementary School).

The Gutterman Center will recognize them during a fall event which will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Family Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education.

The award enables recipients to participate in a study visiting Holocaust sites in Poland and Israel.

“Each year, for the past 10 years, we have celebrated the accomplishments of outstanding teachers who go above and beyond the requirements of the Holocaust education mandate and are truly making a difference in the lives of their students, in their schools and in the world,” said Director Linda Medvin. “This year might be a little different, but we know that education is the best hope against hatred and the Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Family Center is committed to continue our mission to keep the hope alive.”
