Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum Offers Virtual Lecture Series

The Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum (BRHS&M) is pleased to announce a new online lecture series, “Boca History 101,” which will run through mid-November.

Longtime BRHS&M curator Susan Gillis will present this 10-part virtual series for members and non-members alike.

“The ‘Boca History 101’ lectures bring together many seldom-seen images and a wealth of information that I have drawn from the BRHS&M’s rich collections,” she says in a press release. “I would also like to say thank you to all of our pioneers and longtime residents for sharing their memories with us so that we can share them with you.”

The lecture topics include Boca Raton, A Brief History; Boca Raton’s Pioneer Days; Addison Mizner and the 1920s; and Boca Raton During World War II.

Gillis will share a PowerPoint presentation, based on the museum’s historical collections, to accompany each half-hour lecture. They’ll be available for viewing live on Thursdays at noon. Lectures are free for BRHS&M members; access to all 10 lectures costs $25 total for non-members.

Plus, the BRHS&M is actively engaged in its “History Alive!” project. This capital campaign involves an extensive renovation to historic Town Hall and the installation of immersive historical exhibits. The dynamic reimagination of the space, which is slated to open in late 2020, will serve as a shining example of growth in a pandemic economy. The remodeled museum will include three public gathering spaces, with the Pioneer Room and the Research Library specifically constructed to facilitate educational programming. O
