17th Annual “Go Pink” Event Set For October

Emmitt Smith

This year’s 17th Annual Go Pink Luncheon on Oct. 29th at the Boca Raton Resort & Club welcomes Emmitt Smith, Pro Football Hall of Fame running back, businessman, entrepreneur and breast cancer advocate.

Hosted by Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, the luncheon is one of South Florida’s largest women’s health events, raising funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. All proceeds benefit cancer programs at the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute and the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health and Wellness Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Smith became a breast cancer advocate after his sister was diagnosed with Stage 2 triple negative breast cancer in 2011 following a routine mammogram. There is no family history of breast cancer, but she had one of the most aggressive types of the disease. Emmitt was with her every step of the way to her recovery and she is now cancer free!

Louise Morrell, MD, medical director of the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, will also be a featured speaker. Dr. Morrell is a board-certified medical oncologist, specializing in cancer genetics and breast cancer care and an educator and spokesperson. She oversees the comprehensive clinical care services as the medical director of the Lynn Cancer Institute. She leads the tumor board and has established the Multi-Modality Clinics, providing newly-diagnosed cancer patients with multiple subspecialty consultations in a single visit to the Lynn Cancer Institute.

Community philanthropist Patti Carpenter is the luncheon chair hosting the event along with the Go Pink committee. The event features a variety of fundraising initiatives, including the Constellation Brands | Sands Family Foundation Pink Daisy Pick Wine Raffle Pull. This year’s grand prize is a Napa Valley experience, courtesy of Constellation Brands.
