United Way of Palm Beach County Simply the Best Awards Ceremony

United Way of Palm Beach County hosted more than 400 of its closest friends and longtime supporters at its annual Simply the Best Awards Ceremony at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts on May 14, 2019. 

Local businesses such as Publix, Florida Power & Light, Palm Beach County employees, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office were recognized for their outstanding support of United Way. Individuals were also honored for their personal dedication and generosity to United Way, including George Elmore who received the Lifetime Giving Award for the impact he has made in the community through philanthropy. The evening also celebrated United Way’s 90th anniversary and the tremendous impact the organization has made in our community over the past 9 decades. 

“As we reflect on our 90-year history, we see more than just the dollar amount raised. We see the strength of our community through our volunteers and supporters who have continually united together to overcome challenges and show compassion to those in need. We also see stories of how the generosity of our residents and local businesses have transformed lives and given families second chances. This evening gave our guests a renewed perspective on how their contributions have made a difference and inspired them to continue to help us be a champion for everyone in our community,” shared Dr. Laurie George, President and CEO of United Way of Palm Beach County. 

In response to the 1928 hurricane that devastated Palm Beach County, a Community Chest was formed to help residents with immediate needs during recovery efforts. Through the years, local Community Chests merged and evolved into what we now know as United Way of Palm Beach County. 90 years and $300 million dollars later, United Way of Palm Beach County is still serving our community, whether it’s after a disaster or the work we do every day to meet the basic needs of our residents.
