Unbridled Power Uses Equine-Assisted Learning To Teach Life Skills

by

Weisberg Stables is a 20-acre wonder.

Although this Jupiter gem is home to more than 250 beloved animals - including horses, pigs, rabbits, chickens and wallabies - it also has a very important mission.

"At Weisberg Stables, we believe you have the power to learn, you have the power to grow and you have the power to change," explains its website.

That philosophy is the cornerstone of Weisberg Stables' Unbridled Power, an equine- assisted learning program making a difference in the lives of those with special needs, foster children, veterans and at-risk youth.

The eight-week program is part of the Weisberg Family Foundation, a private philanthropic organization founded by Palm Beach Gardens residents Karin Taylor and her husband, Bill Weisberg.

"What makes our program special and unique is participation, retention, fun and, of course, a horse," says Taylor, an experienced equestrian and former model who created Unbridled Power in May 2017. "Horses don't judge. They don't care if you are tall or short, rich or poor, young or old. Horses are 100 percent focused on the present. Just being around them can help us to focus; slow down; and become present and better attuned to ourselves, our environment and those around us."

That's why horses are the perfect "teachers" for participants in the program.

"Through our Unbridled Power equine-assisted learning program, we offer the opportunity to experience the powerful and life-changing moment of self- discovery and connection with others using horses as the teachers," says Taylor, who homeschools her five children in addition to running the stables and other philanthropic work, including serving on the boards of A Chance For Children Foundation, Hart for Horses and McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary.

Unbridled Power engages body, mind and spirit to build confidence, communication skills, trust, social skills and impulse control and to learn boundaries. Exercises are designed to maximize learning potential while focusing on developing individual skills as participants work through interactive group challenges.

"Teams work to develop relationships and accept responsibility and accountability and recognize the value of mutual trust, respect and personal integrity," Taylor says.

The Weisberg Family Foundation's programs focus on improving literacy skills, providing an education to children in the Dominican Republic, and giving summer-camp scholarships to underprivileged and at-risk children. O
