Empty Bowls Event Helps Feed Locals Experiencing Hunger

As you take a bite of your decadent feast this holiday season, ponder this: One in six Palm Beach County residents doesn't know where they will get their next meal.

If this dampens your appetite, take action at the Third Annual Empty Bowls on Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Old School Square Pavilion in Delray Beach. This national grassroots event raises money for hunger relief with a motto we all should live by: "Eat simply, so others can simply eat."

It's a community event: Old School Bakery will provide rustic breads, and 30 local chefs will donate their signature soups for guests to enjoy.

The meal of bread, soup and water is simple - but the impact is far-reaching. Proceeds benefit the Palm Beach County Food Bank's fight against hunger.

Each participant will receive a handcrafted bowl, created by a student from a local school, meant to be a reminder of all the empty bowls in the community - and how guests helped fill them.
