Blank Canvas

Andy Blank Offers Chic And Affordable Contemporary Art Online

If you’ve ever stared at a blank expanse of wall in your home feeling hopeless about how to fill it, meet Andy Blank.

The artist’s original, handmade works are sold at accessible prices (between $55 and $199) so you can deck your halls with all the contemporary art you desire. And you’re not getting a rolled-up print in a tube, either: Every photo print arrives hand-framed and ready to hang, using museum-grade materials. We spoke to the Brooklyn-based artist about his perspective on home art and the accessibility of the industry as a whole.

What was the inspiration for creating your brand?

It came from what was missing in the art world. I could see who the current model is catered for. I’ve always thought that beautiful contemporary art should be hanging everywhere. Therefore, I’m aiming to make collectors out of those who don’t usually collect art.

What do you think is lacking in the home art industry?

I can tell you what the home art industry isn’t lacking: printed canvases. Most of the time, it’s made in China with little to no human element included. I believe having handmade elements in the home adds that personal touch and engages people.

How do you describe your aesthetic?

I think it’s inviting, fun and easy for the eye to grasp. There’s a little bit of minimalism as well as humor thrown in there.

Tell us about your favorite piece.

I love creating photography, and the “Spaceman” series is one of my favorites. I dressed up as a spaceman and walked around various neighborhoods in New York City.
