Books For Wee Ones

Refrigerator With Books And Frozen Treats Motivates Kids To Read

by

Have you heard of the Little Free Library craze that’s been sweeping the nation? These little libraries are showing up across the world.

Now, a similar concept, with a playful and colorful spin, has popped up at The Royal Poinciana Plaza in Palm Beach. Dubbed The Wee Free Library, this bubble-gum pink Smeg refrigerator is full of books, as well as frozen treats for children and their families. Just like the Little Free Library, the Wee Free Library’s goal is to promote literacy and inclusion, but in a style that reflects Palm Beach.

Located next to Celis Produce, the Wee Free Library holds about 75 books for children of all ages, plus crayons, coloring books and custom bookmarks. The freezer portion offers free freezer pops to keep kids cool.

Citing diversity and representation as priorities, the Royal Poinciana Plaza and its parent company, WS Development, have made sure that titles are inclusive based on race, ethnicity, feminist characters and are LGBTQ+ friendly.

Selections have been sourced by OurShelves, a book subscription company. Parents will be provided with a chance to enter to win an annual OurShelves subscription.

Visitors are encouraged not only to borrow, but to contribute books. New selections will rotate in so children return.

Parents and kids are invited to share pictures and videos. Just tag
