Coachella Makes Its Return

The Music Festival, Which Was Founded In 1999, Kicks Off April 14

Coachella is back and Bad Bunny, Blackpink and Frank Ocean are on this year’s lineup. The music festival, which was founded in 1999, kicks off April 14 in Indio, Calif., at the Empire Polo Grounds and runs through April 16. It then returns the following weekend from April 21–23.

Blackpink is the first K-Pop group to headline the festival and Bad Bunny is the first Latin artist headliner. Rapper Frank Ocean hasn’t performed there since 2017 and took a hiatus after the death of his brother in a car accident in 2020.

The 2023 lineup is a lot different from the previous year when Harry Styles was the headliner and Shania Twain was his special guest. Billie Eilish headlined weekend two. That event was the first after Coachella was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

Other acts this year include Gorillaz, Burna Boy, The Chemical Brothers, Charli XCX, Björk and Rosalía. There’s a good chance that by the time you read this, the event will have been sold out, but have no fear, it’s still possible to watch a live stream on YouTube through Coachella’s official channel.

To give you an idea of how popular Coachella has become since it began, in 1999, about 37,000 people were in attendance. Today, 125,000 people (the max allowed) are expected to rock the event each day.
