Conquer Clutter

Tips For Organizing Your Home Like A Pro

With all the sage advice out there today about how to declutter, tidy up and go minimalist, you’d think our houses would be shipshape.

But some of us need a bit more help in the organization department.

To the rescue: Good Housekeeping, which understands our plight. Here, we share the magazine’s suggestions on how to get ready to purge.

  1. Write down your goals: Why do you want to get organized? What do you want to accomplish?
  2. Decide where your clutter is going to go. Charity shop? Recycling?
  3. Ask a friend to help – it’s easier to be objective about someone else’s things.
  4. Don’t run out to buy organizing supplies – this is just another word for more clutter.
  5. Take “before” pictures of each room, and workout what needs to be cleared.
  6. Switch to paperless, and opt to receive bank and other statements electronically.
  7. If you don’t love, wear or use it, it’s out.
