Dream Come True

Make-A-Wish Provides Disney Experience At Boca Beach Club

Kinsley Wilkerson is one brave little girl.

The 5-year-old is battling brain cancer. And to get through the tough times, she dreams of fun things – like the sun, the ocean and the Disney character Moana.

Cue up a fairy godmother in the form of Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, and you’ve got the makings of a heartfelt story sure to elicit a tear or two.

The organization, which has granted more than 12,000 life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses since 1983, recently gave Kinsley, of Granite Bay, California, something to smile about.

She and her family traveled to South Florida and were treated like VIPs as they enjoyed a specially decorated cabana and some very special activities at Boca Beach Club. Kinsley was greeted by Moana, her pig and rooster, and Chick-fil-A cows dressed up in coconut bras and hula skirts (a tribute to the food Kinsley craves during treatment) during a Polynesian-themed pool party.

Make-A-Wish Southern Florida is one busy organization: It grants one child’s wish every 14 hours.

“The wishes we grant aren’t just nice – they’re necessary,” says Norman Wedderburn, president and CEO of the organization, in a press release. “Research shows the anticipation of a wish and the memories made during them can have a positive and significant impact on the health and well-being of the children, families and extended networks we reach.”
