Everyday Should Be Earth Day

Run To Make A Difference

by

This year’s Earth Day theme is “Invest in Our Planet” and now really is the time to invest and act. If you are looking for ways to make a difference, there are several events taking place this month.

Runners, take note! The Friends of Jonathan Dickinson State Park and Southern Timing are holding the 2nd annual Earth Day 5K. The race will take runners along the Kitching Creek Trail winding through beautiful scenery and along the tree-lined canopy of the Loxahatchee River. It takes place April 9 starting at 7:15 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Inc.; a nonprofit organization providing direct support to help enhance the ecological, historical and cultural resources of the park.

Esplanade Park in Fort Lauderdale will be the scene of the 7th annual Heal the Planet Day on April 24. The event, hosted by the nonprofit organization Heal the Planet, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and has activities for all ages. For the kids there will be yoga, face painting, singing bowls and a transformational art project. Adults can learn about ways to grow their own food, sustainability and other farming techniques. There will be live music, healing modalities, breathing exercises and wellness speakers. There also will be a Conscious Vendor Village with crafts, clothing, food trucks and more.
