New Platform Umbrella Connects Neighbors To Help Neighbors
Neighbors helping neighbors. It’s always been a good idea, but now there’s a service that takes things up a notch.
Meet Umbrella, a platform that helps people 60 and older maintain their homes – from changing a lightbulb to fixing a leaky faucet – with an assist from vetted community members.
“More than 50 percent of our Umbrella Neighbors are recent retirees themselves who want to give back while earning a bit of extra money,” notes a press release.
The Brooklyn-based program, which recently launched in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, is designed to help older people maintain their homes at an affordable cost. Those who want to use the service pay an annual fee to become a member and request assistance by calling, texting or emailing. There is a flat hourly fee for most services.
Umbrella began in 2017 and can also be found in New York and New Jersey.
