If you are on the other side of the world, then it brings in colder days and winter.

We found some other interesting facts about the month. In Old English, May was referred to as the “month of three milkings,” because you could milk your cows three times a day.

May is a good month for U.S. presidents, as no president has ever died in that month.

For sky watchers, the Eta Aquariids meteor shower, which was discovered in 1870, peaks during May and can be seen in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres during the predawn hours.

And of course, there is the Maypole dance, which symbolizes and encourages fertility, which makes sense since May was named for Maia, the Greek goddess of fertility.

There are some superstitions around the month. The Cornish believed that buying a new broom in May was unlucky. They also believed that cats born in May attracted snakes to their doors. There’s also some May skincare advice: Wash your face with May dew, which, according to superstition, gives you a glowing complexion that lasts all year round.
