Meet Me At The Met

New York City's Met Gala Is Back

by

New York City’s most anticipated event of the season takes place May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year it celebrates “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” featuring approximately 250 rare items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection.

The official dress code for those in attendance is “The Garden of Time,” based on a short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard. The theme is dystopian and it should be interesting to see what fashion designers come up with and what the stars who attend wear.

Put on by Vogue, it’s a who’s who of guests — from celebrities to those in the fashion industry. This year’s co-hosts are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth. The guest list is a closely guarded secret and usually isn’t revealed until the night before they roll out the red carpet.

Rihanna, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga are just a few past attendees. It’s by invitation only and a single ticket can set you back around $50,000. And even if you are invited, that doesn’t mean you get to bring a plus one. Often the celebs will show up with their designer instead of a significant other.

Last year, Billie Eilish became the youngest person to attend the gala at 21. You have to be at least 18 to attend.

The gala isn’t just a party for the rich and famous, it’s also a fundraiser for the museum and generally brings in around eight figures, according to Vogue.
