Boca Entrepreneurs Offer Alternatives To College Directory

As millions across the country struggle with massive student loan debt, many have come to the realization that college – traditionally regarded as the sole pathway to a meaningful career – isn’t necessarily the answer.

Marketing exec Barry Layne and Joe Schmoke, former CEO of Andrew Jackson University (now New Charter University) in Salt Lake City, couldn’t agree more.

That’s why the Boca Raton residents founded Alternatives To College, an online directory that provides one-stop shopping for skills-based programs. The company, headquartered at FAU, offers alternatives to a wide range of careers for everyone from high school grads to experienced workers seeking to change fields.

“Traditional higher education isn’t for everyone. Not going to college, dropping out or recognizing that college isn’t right for you should never keep you from achieving your piece of the American dream,” notes the company’s website. “Alternatives to college abound. Your options are as endless as the economy. There are thousands of programs designed to give you the knowledge, training and tools you need to get to work. And you don’t have to drown yourself in debt or wait four, five or six years to start working.”
