Norton Museum Reopens

Norton Museum Welcomes The Community Back To View Its Masterpieces

The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is creating new memories.

The museum, which recently opened after being shuttered due to the pandemic, is ready to showcase its many masterpieces.

“We can’t wait to welcome our community back into the museum,” said Bruce Gendelman, chairman of the board of trustees, in a press release. “We look forward to celebrating our 80th year with presentations of new work and outstanding works drawn from our far-ranging collections.”

Visitors can enjoy more than 7,000 works, all of which concentrate on European, American and Chinese art as well as contemporary art and photography.

But there are some restrictions to keep everyone safe: Masks are required, daily capacity is limited, visitors will have their temperature taken and timed ticket reservations are required.

On view through May 9 is an exhibit by artist María Berrío, who reflects on issues of immigration and nature’s vulnerability. It features nearly 23 pieces created from 2013 to today, including works on display for the first time. “Inspired by her own family’s history leaving her native Bogotá, Colombia, Berrío promotes the resilience of women,” notes the museum's website.

Also, South Florida artist Jose Alvarez displays a series of 30 ink portraits of fellow immigrant detainees he created while in Miami’s Krome Detention Center in 2011.

The Norton is open Friday-Sunday.
