Taking A Stand

Adjustable-Height Desks Offer Health Benefits For Workers

For those of us who sit behind desks all day, it’s time to take a stand.

And why not do it with an adjustable-height desk? Studies show that working while standing can contribute to significant weight loss and have a positive effect on blood sugar and cholesterol levels versus sitting all day. Plus, research has found it can boost productivity by as much as 40 percent.

Since the first standing desks were introduced 10 years ago, there have been many advances in the industry. A case in point: functional furniture company Twin Star Home’s new electronic adjustable-height desk.

“Our customers have let us know they love the stand-up concept but that one size doesn’t fit all,” says Lisa Cody, vice president of marketing, in a press release. “People want an alternative to sitting all day, but that doesn’t mean they necessarily want to stand all day either. People want furniture that multitasks right along with them.”

The desks can be customized from a conventional height of 29 inches to 47 inches – and anywhere in between. Some include extra perks like built-in USB chargers, a timer that can remind users when to get up and move around, or a desktop that doubles as a whiteboard.

“You’ll be spending five or six hours a day at your desk,” says Cody. “Why not enjoy it?”
