90-Year-Old Delray Resident Tony Allerton Honored For Charity Work

There’s no stopping Tony Allerton.

Whether he’s lending a hand at the Delray Beach Playhouse, serving as a board member of the Wayside House or taking on duties as executive director of the Crossroads Club, the 90-year-old Delray Beach resident is always there when he’s needed.

Allerton, who has been in recovery for many years, helps others overcome their substance abuse issues through various organizations, including the Crossroads Club in Delray Beach, which provides meeting space for 12-step groups that support recovery. He spearheaded renovations to the group’s current facility, where 750 people come through the doors daily to attend one of 160 weekly meetings.

His good deeds haven’t gone unnoticed. Allerton – who has served on the boards of the Delray Beach Playhouse, the Wayside House and the Drug Abuse Foundation of Palm Beach County and is a past president of the Delray Beach Rotary Club – will be honored for 60 years of service to the community at the Inaugural Gratitude Luncheon on Nov. 7 at noon at the Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach.

“We are so pleased to honor Tony Allerton for his 60 years of service to our community,” said Delray Beach Deputy Vice-Mayor Bill Bathurst, according to a press release. “Through his compassion and experiences, he has touched the lives of countless individuals and serves as an inspiration to all who meet him.”

The luncheon will benefit Crossroads, whose “mission is simply to provide a wonderful safe harbor for individuals to meet in order to become true to themselves and to be released from the bondages of addiction,” notes its website.
