The Sky’s The Limit

Spend Father's Day Weekend Flying Kites At The Morikami

Looking for something different to do on Father’s Day weekend?

Head over to the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach for interactive kite-making workshops June 15 & 16, ending with an afternoon of kite flying.

“Participants will learn about Japanese tako, or kites, their varying styles and shapes, and the techniques and materials needed to bring them to life,” notes a press release. “They’ll also design rocket kites or more traditional iterations made from bamboo and washi, or Japanese paper, and employ a paper-dyeing technique known as orizome.

The workshops will be led by Mikio Toki, a world-renowned kite master whose works are on permanent display in museums like the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.

Participants can learn more about the history of Japanese kite flying in the Morikami exhibit “Falling Water, Soaring Kites,” on display through Aug. 11.
