Boca Raton Walk to End Alzheimer’s To Take A Different Route

“Alzheimer’s is not taking a hiatus during COVID-19 and neither are we,” says Stefanie Mardar, director of the Boca Raton Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

So, instead of the traditional nationwide Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, this year’s local event Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. will feature participants walking as individuals or in small groups on sidewalks, tracks and trails around Boca Raton.

“The pandemic is changing how we walk, but it doesn’t change the need to walk. This year, more than ever, we need to come together to support all those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia,” explains Wendy Vizek, vice president of constituent events for the Alzheimer’s Association, in a press release. “With the dollars raised, the Alzheimer’s Association can continue to provide care and support to families during these difficult times while also advancing critical research toward methods of treatment and prevention.”

A new app to help participants track their steps and more – along with an encouraging audio track – will be available.

Mardar shares these sobering statistics: More than 5 million Americans – 580,000 of them in Florida – are battling Alzheimer’s disease.
