We Will Never Forget

Not all anniversaries are happy occasions. The 82nd anniversary of what is considered the start of the Holocaust is one of them. 

But, it’s important to observe this date to ensure we don’t forget the horror – and to honor survivors. 

Locally, the 19th Annual local Kristallnacht Film Forum will be held Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m. The virtual event, which will honor survivors and March of the Living supporters Rosette and Gil Goldstein during a 1 p.m. Zoom call, will also showcase the movie, “Chasing Portraits,” created by Elizabeth Rynecki, the great-granddaughter of the subject of the film, Moshe Rynecki.

The prolific artist painted scenes of the Polish-Jewish community before being deported to the Warsaw ghetto and subsequently murdered in the Majdanek concentration camp. A Q&A with Elizabeth, who was able to find and rebuild his collection, will be held following the screening.

The annual event, presented by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and the March of the Living, raises money for students to attend the March in Poland and Israel, where they travel – along with educators, rabbis and survivors – to Holocaust camp sites, march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, and celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day).
