Pet Supermarket, one of the nation’s premium pet stores, boasts over 200 locations across the Southeast United States. For the entire duration of July, Pet Supermarket is selling camo pet bandanas, and 100% of the profits will be donated to The United States War Dogs Association, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting dogs in the military. In the past five years, Pet Supermarket has raised over $1 million for the organization, and the company plans for this to be the fundraiser’s biggest year yet.

Vice President of Store Operations at Pet Supermarket Nicol Russell noted, “We are thrilled to support an organization that is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of U.S. military working dogs.”

These funds will help The U.S. War Dogs in a variety of ways including the purchasing of cooling vests and goggles for canines on duty and providing medicine for retired dogs. The program also memorializes fallen dogs with monuments and places retired dogs in loving, permanent homes.

There are about 2,500 canine soldiers in service today with an average service length spanning 10 years. The dogs undergo rigorous training for weapon, bomb and drug detection. They also learn to attack enemies and track objects. After the completion of their service, dogs are often left with PTSD and without homes. The U.S. War Dogs Association ensures that the dogs are cared for during and after their service.

Chris Willingham, President of The U.S. War Dogs Association, commented that “The majority of my 20-year military career was dedicated to the Military Working Dogs program. I know firsthand just how much the donations and community’s support can really impact the lives of these canine service members during and after their military service.”

The association supports the long history of service dogs in the U.S. military. To learn more about The United States War Dogs Association, click here. Visit Pet Supermarket to purchase a fashionable bandana for your furry friend and honor the canines that protect us each day.
