Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month

by

June is Pride Month, held to honor the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and celebrate visibility and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. Tributes and events are being held worldwide to celebrate including in our own backyard with Pridescape.

Held in downtown Delray Beach, Pridescape is a festival inviting the community to come together in support of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2021, the City of Delray Beach created the Pridescape painting of the Inclusive Flag at the Intersection of N.E. 2nd Ave. and N.E. 1st St. in the historic district of Pineapple Grove to show unity within the community. This year the same design will be re-painted for the month of June to uplift the LGBTQ+ community.

Mayor of Delray Beach Shelly Petrolia says, “The Pride streetscape is about solidarity, inclusion and visibility: A proud celebration of our cities diversity.”

The second annual event of Pridescape painting will be held on June 11 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This event is free to the public accompanied by a pet costume contest, vendors, food trucks and live entertainment. A concert by “Almost Abba” is scheduled at the Old School Square pavilion at 8:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to make the evening more comfortable. During the concert, there will also be food and beverages available for purchase.

Performances by iconic LGTBQ+ figures like Ariel Rimm, Adelaide, Angie Ovahness  Pryce, Citris and current reigning Miss Palm Beach Pride, Crystal Famouz, will also take place.
