FAU Annual White Coats-4-Care Scholarship Fundraiser Returns This August
Over the past year, the world has seen the importance of doctors and modern medicine more than ever. FAU is doing its share by making sure that the next generation of doctors are well funded and supported through its Annual White Coats-4-Care Scholarship fundraiser.
Today, the average cost of medical school ranges from $250,000 to $400,000. This massive expense serves as a burden to many. At the FAU Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, 80% to 85% of the students require financial aid. The White Coats-4-Care Scholarship fundraiser helps FAU medical students reach their full potential by giving them the necessary funds to excel in their education and beyond.
Co-chair of White Coats-4-Care Bonnie Kaye shared, “Scholarships give students the ability to follow their hearts, not their debts, into lifelong medical careers.”
There are many ways for donors to support medical students through the fundraiser. White Coats-4-Care donation options include:
- $200: This provides a medical student’s first white coat. The name of the individual, family or company that supported the student will be in the pocket of each coat.
- $500: This provides funds for medical school in memory of Founding Dean Michael L. Friedland, M.D.
- $1,000: An electronic tribute featuring the donor’s name will be in the College of Medicine lobby for one year.
- Pledge of $20,000 or more to join to White Coat Society: This supports students through all four years of medical school. The pledge is paid in annual installments of $5,000 per year.
Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine Interim Dean Sarah Wood, M.D. noted, “Together, we want to train doctors who mirror the communities they serve. We are proud that FAU’s Schmidt College of Medicine is ranked 24th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report with respect to the diversity of our medical students.”
The reception for the fundraiser will take place August 4 at 6 p.m. To attend the 2021 White Coats-4-Care event, donors must register online by July 23. Location details will be announced in July. To support the cause, click here.
