Mega-Hit "Hamilton" Raps Its Way Into Broward Center

by

The show we've all been waiting for - and talking about - is finally here.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Hamilton: An American Musical" is the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton, told in a fashion that makes history even more compelling. The touring show will take center stage at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale Dec. 18 through Jan. 20. And tickets are not easy to come by.

The score features a blend of hip-hop, pop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and showtunes, with music and lyrics by Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and music supervision and orchestration by  Alex Lacamoire.

Based on Ron Chernow's biography, the play is nearly three hours long - but you won't want to miss any of the unforgettable songs that earned the production multiple Tony Awards.

The reviews have been top-notch, leaving us to wonder - what's not to like?

The Washington Post weighed in with this accolade: "Hamilton's complex and unruly personal and public lives, as military strategist, philandering husband, crusading publisher, master of rhetoric and architect of our monetary system, make him a challenging subject for a musical's storytelling compressions. Leave it to Miranda to find in the stampeding meter of hip-hop the capability to pack all those lives into one evening."

And the Houston Chronicle claims that seeing "Hamilton" "equates to unadulterated joy" but also imparts a significant lesson: "Inspiration, which is the best word to describe what 'Hamilton' offers, is a kick in the behind. It compels us to move. It demands that we fulfill our duty as patriots and turn the world upside down." O
