Broadway favorite "Les Misérables" has an enthralling story, stunning scenery and a thrilling score.

No wonder it's been the world's most popular musical for decades.

So why mess with success? Theater producer Cameron Mackintosh, who created a new production of the mega-hit to celebrate its 25th anniversary, wanted to shake things up a bit. And it worked.

"Since I first conceived the new production, it has taken the world by storm," he writes on his website. "I am thrilled that modern audiences have embraced this production as 'Les Mis' for the 21st century, and it is playing to packed houses all over the world in many languages."

The latest incarnation of the acclaimed musical, with scenery inspired by the paintings of original author Victor Hugo, will light up the stage at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach Feb. 12-17 and at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami Feb. 5-10.

"This epic and uplifting story has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history," notes the venue's website.

The score - which includes "I Dreamed A Dream," "On My Own" and "One Day More" - is as engrossing as the plot: "an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit," according to the Kravis website.

The Boublil and Schönberg musical received top-notch ratings from reviewers, including this one from the Philadelphia Inquirer: "A knockout! This new touring production of 'Les Misérables' is magnificent." O
