A Whole New World

This show has it all: a flying magic carpet, 84 special effects, foot-tapping music and costumes adorned with more than 8,000 Swarovski crystals.

“Disney’s Aladdin” is coming to Fort Lauderdale, and the Broward Center will host 16 showings between Jan. 8 & 19.

“Discover a whole new world at ‘Disney’s Aladdin,’ the hit Broadway musical. From the producer of ‘The Lion King’ comes the timeless story, a thrilling new production filled with unforgettable beauty, magic, comedy and breathtaking spectacle,” notes the venue’s website. “It’s an extraordinary theatrical event where one lamp and three wishes make the possibilities infinite.”

While audiences will be captivated by the music during the 2.5-hour show (who doesn’t love “A Whole New World”?), the plot, which revolves around a street rat finding a genie who grants him three wishes, is just as endearing.

Deadline.com offered this perspective on the production during its time in Los Angeles: “Disney Theatrical Productions has brought animated features to life, and they burst at the seams with Disney magic – and ‘Aladdin’ is no exception; a journey of warm celebratory colors, dance, music and ornate costumes from the fictional city of Agrabah that brings all the familiarity of the movie with Broadway flair. ‘Aladdin’ is a visual feast for the eyes that nicely packages a classic Disney feature that was enchanting when it first was released in 1992.”
