Singer-Songwriter Banks Brings Powerful Sound To Fillmore

by

Banks is back. The singer-songwriter took a hiatus and came back better than ever. Her new album, “III,” is a testament to her talent.

That newfound energy will be apparent when she takes the stage – performing her unique blend of alternative R&B, trip hop and alternative pop – at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater on Oct. 19 at 8:30 p.m.

Banks, whose real name is Jillian Rose Banks, is more reflective these days, as evidenced by a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“For me, every song is made to make me feel empowered – I use music to heal myself, and hopefully that’s why other people connect to it, because maybe it can heal them, too. Most of all, I hope my album makes people feel understood and empowered and sexy and powerful.”

Although the California native never used her degree in psychology from the University of Southern California to counsel others, it has had an impact on her musical career.

“I don’t think getting my psych degree influences how I write at all, but I think that my music dives deep into the dynamics of humans and their emotions,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.

She’ll be sharing the stage with musician Kevin Garrett, who collaborated on Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” album and has performed at numerous festivals, including Bonnaroo.

“Kevin Garrett twists up soulful tradition with singer-songwriter spirit, lush instrumentation and alternative adventurousness,” notes his website.

Sounds like a dynamic duo. O
