Broward Center Welcomes Broadway Hit “Dear Evan Hansen"

by

We can all relate to teen angst. Perhaps that’s why “Dear Evan Hansen” resonates with audiences around the country.

The award-winning musical (it nabbed six Tony Awards in 2017, including Best Musical) will take the stage April 2-7 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. But be warned: This is a complex, emotional play – not a lighthearted romp.

A synopsis on the venue’s website gives a glimpse into the production: “A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it.”

The play was written by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson; directed by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif; and scored by Academy Award, Golden Globe and Tony Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. So, it should come as no surprise that it has garnered rave reviews.

“One of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history,” noted The Washington Post.

The Los Angeles Times shared this advice for theatergoers: “Don’t even try to guess how the story plays out. ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is continually surprising, but what’s impressive about the work is how, even when a plot point strains credibility, the characters are always psychologically true.” O
