Singer Lizzo Brings The Sass To Fillmore Miami Beach

by

When Lizzo’s fifth-grade music teacher handed her a flute, it was a watershed moment.

And it turned out to be a match made in heaven. Lizzo, then known as Melissa Jefferson, became so proficient on the instrument that the Detroit native went on to pursue a degree in music performance and music theory.

“I saw a life of concert black and Boston Pops and traveling the world,” the chart-topping singer and rapper told NPR.org. “When that didn’t pan out for me, I was very depressed.”

Her career may not have unfolded the way she dreamed, but, these days, Lizzo is at the top of her game: She’s on her Cuz I Love You Too Tour, which stops at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m.

Fans have plenty to look forward to, including show-stopping lyrics, flute playing extraordinaire and plenty of Lizzo’s sass. She exudes self-love and body positivity – sure to inspire fans of all shapes and sizes.

Notes CNN.com: “Her brazenly sexual lyrics and willingness to show off her zaftig figure, coupled with plenty of radio play and breathless media coverage about her breakthrough album, ‘Cuz I Love You,’ has placed Lizzo at the forefront of pop culture at this moment.”

And she’s one happy lady, as evidenced by her bio on Atlantic Records’ website.

“This is a way more confident Lizzo who believes in her confidence,” she explains. “For the last three years, I’ve been working on myself and learning how to love who I am. There were moments that would’ve completely defeated me when I was younger. Instead, I was able to not just survive, but thrive. This is the person who I truly want to be. I really found my voice.” O
