Spady Museum Hosts Kuumba Village, Kwanzaa Celebration

by

The Spady Museum in Delray Beach is hosting a special holiday event: The Kuumba Village and the Kwanzaa Celebration.

The fun begins at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 26. The outdoor Kuumba Village is the place to make your own gifts, listen to live music, join in art activities, enjoy storytelling and eat good food.

The Kwanzaa Celebration, marking the first day of Kwanzaa, will be held in conjunction with the village events.

“Kwanzaa is a Pan-African holiday designed to strengthen and celebrate the best of African culture and heritage. Umoja (“unity” in Swahili) is one of the seven Kwanzaa principles practiced by the Spady Museum that makes this celebration vibrate with cultural appeal,” notes a press release.  “Five community-minded organizations come together to infuse the Kwanzaa celebration with all of the seven principles for a rich and memorable experience. Unity, a concept that was kept away from African Americans during the founding of our country, is an important principle to learn, adopt and practice.

The Spady Museum will condense the week-long celebration into an afternoon of community observation. Be a part of the reaffirmation of the individual, culture, family and environment.”
