Keeping It Creative

Cultural Council For Palm Beach County Offers Virtual Summer Program

by

Keeping things creative is a fine art.

But the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County has just the ticket for lovers of the arts. Welcome to the group’s Virtual Summer Program, where you’ll be immersed in works by visual and performing artists based locally.

This month’s offerings: The Man with the Horn, a jazz fest featuring musicians Jill and Rich Switzer and Friends on Aug. 1; In Other Words, a cabaret show with vocalist Meri Ziev on Aug. 15; and One Love: A Tribute to Bob Marley, starring Soda Pop and the Insiders on Aug. 29. The free live broadcasts begin at 7 p.m. on YouTube and the council’s website.

Virtual exhibitions are also available. Through Aug. 29, check out Delray Beach artist Petrina Easton’s “Summer Abstraction,” featuring an interview with Easton as well as artwork by 20 other local artists.

“The artists in this exhibition were challenged to create abstract compositions using elements of color, shape, line, space value and texture,” explains a Facebook post.

Adds Dave Lawrence, the council’s president and CEO: “We felt it was extremely important to find ways to keep local creative professionals working through the pandemic. Many have lost work, and these programs provide the featured artists with a platform for creativity and exposure to new audiences. We hope to provide our community with joy and inspiration in a time that we all need it most.” O
