Broward Center Welcomes “Escape To Margaritaville” Musical

by

You may not change your latitude, but you’ll definitely change your attitude when watching the acclaimed musical “Escape To Margaritaville” at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale Nov. 19 to Dec. 1.

This is the ultimate shaker of salt for Jimmy Buffett fans. The show, on its first national tour, is based on the Broadway rendition that closed in 2018. The plot?

“Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of,” according to a description of the show. “Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar and kick back to the soothing sounds of the steel drum.”

Buffett, who has been involved in the production, shares his thoughts with Playbill: “This talented cast has been hand-selected to share and celebrate the story, music and lifestyle of this show. I am thrilled that this group of performers will transform theaters into Margaritaville each evening. Margaritaville started out as an idea, but now you can actually spend an evening there and get your mind on island time.”

Expect all your favorite Buffett tunes – including “Fins,” “Son of a Son of a Sailor,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Volcano” and more – entwined in a hilarious and heartwarming plot that “will knock your flip-flops off,” according to organizers.

It’s escapism at its finest, notes a Facebook post from the show: “Plan your escape to the new musical about the choices we make – and the people we become – once we’ve had a change in latitude. More than a musical. It’s a way of life.”

Welcome to island time. O
