Man Of The Hour

Chances are you’ve heard of “Man of La Mancha.”

If so, you’ll be happy to know that you can catch the show-stopper at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach Sept. 13-29. If you haven’t seen it, we suggest you experience this iconic production. 

Here’s why: It’s one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history. “Man of La Mancha” first opened in 1965 and was made into a 1972 movie starring Peter O’Toole, James Coco and Sophia Loren. 

The original Broadway production had 2,328 performances and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It starred Joan Diener, Irving Jacobson, Richard Kiley, Ray Middleton and Robert Rounseville and was such a fan favorite that it was revived four times on Broadway, becoming one of the most enduring works of musical theater.

Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th century masterpiece, “Don Quixote,” “Man of La Mancha” not only has a mesmerizing story but a score that has remained popular for decades. 

Notes the Kravis Center website: “Powerful, brutal, hilarious and heartbreaking, ‘Man of La Mancha’ celebrates the perseverance of a dying old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. The celebrated score includes ‘The Impossible Dream,’ ‘I, Don Quixote,’ ‘Dulcinea,’ ‘I Really Like Him,’ ‘Little Bird’ and ‘To Each His Dulcinea.’” O
