Broward Center Readies For Broadway Hit “A Bronx Tale”

by

Mark your calendars: You don’t want to miss the hit musical “A Bronx Tale” during its run at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale June 11-23.

Not only does the cast feature 11 alumni from the Broadway production, but it’s directed by Academy Award winner Robert De Niro and Tony winner Jerry Zaks and based on a story by Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri. Think “Jersey Boys” meets “West Side Story.”

The show, which revolves around themes of respect, loyalty, love and family, is sure to transport you to another time.

“Broadway’s hit crowd-pleaser takes you to the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he’d love to be,” notes the venue’s website. “Bursting with high-energy dance numbers and original doo-wop tunes from the songwriter of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘A Bronx Tale’ is an unforgettable story of loyalty and family.”

The New York Times had this reaction: “Wonderful and refreshing. The kind of tale that makes you laugh and cry.”

The two-hour production is the latest incarnation of the story, which is based on a one-man show that inspired the 1993 movie. “A Bronx Tale” had 700 Broadway performances before closing last year.

Thinking of bringing the kids along? The show is recommended for ages 12 and older due to strong language and gunshot effects. O
