Running For Their Lives

The pandemic has changed nearly everything about our lives. But it hasn’t changed the need to raise money to fight breast cancer.

So the Komen South Florida Race for The Cure will continue – in a virtual format.

This year’s event, set for Jan. 30, will be innovative – and important. “Whether you participate for your friend who is newly diagnosed, your sister living with breast cancer, for yourself as a survivor, or in memory of a loved one, we are stronger when we join together,” notes the group’s website. 

The race, which begins at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony, also includes Power Of Pink Week events Jan. 25-29. The week includes Monday’s writing tributes on the We Remember Wall; TuTu Tuesday, a day to don your pink tutu; Chalk Your Walk Wednesday, to let neighbors know you are racing; Throwback Thursday, for participants to post favorite pictures or memories

of participating in a previous Race for the Cure or Komen event; and Spirit Day Friday. 

The race takes place all day Saturday during #RaceWhereYouAre. “We encourage you to walk in your neighborhood, local park, or wherever you’re able to socially distance with your family, friends, and team members,” notes the website.
