Silver Screen Marvels

Over 100 feature narratives, documentaries and short films from 40 countries are set to grace the big screen at this year’s Miami Film Festival, running April 5-14. With an expected audience of more than 45,000 cinephiles, including 300 filmmakers, producers and industry professionals, the festival is a much-anticipated event drawing those passionate about the movie industry.   

Since its inception in 1984, the Miami Film Festival has attracted numerous celebrities and cinematic luminaries such as Barry Jenkins, Sarah Jessica Parker, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Andy Garcia, Anne Hathaway, Spike Lee and Pedro Almodóvar, among others.

It also serves as a platform for new emerging local talent through marquee screenings, significant cash prizes — amounting to a hefty $100,000 in cash awards — and the Knight Made in MIA Award for films featuring a substantial portion of its content in South Florida.

Cinema buffs can look forward to screenings throughout various theaters across the greater Miami area, like the newly renovated Miami Dade College Koubek Memorial Center in Little Havana, Silverspot Cinema, Colony Theater, Coral Gables Art Cinema and O Cinema. Additionally, the festival also hosts in-depth conversations with film legends, award presentations, workshops, gala parties, masterclasses, industry networking opportunities and dozens of world-class events, including the Mercado de Cine Frances y Europeo, which brings filmmaking agents and buyers from Europe and Latin America to Miami.

Led by Miami Dade College since 2003, the festival has gained recognition for its numerous discoveries and for giving more than one million dollars in cash awards to its participants. Every year, it welcomes theatrical distributors and broadcasters like 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures Classics, A24, HBO and many others.
