Something To Sing About

Chances are you’ve seen award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin in one of his many incarnations.

The Emmy-winning TV star from “Chicago Hope” has a long list of hits, including his mesmerizing roles in Showtime’s “Homeland” and in the cult classic 1987 movie “The Princess Bride.”

And, wow, can he sing. Check out his vocal chops at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. when he presents Mandy Patinkin In Concert: Diaries with Adam Ben-David on Piano.

“Singing onstage is one of the great joys of my life, so I’ve created a new concert – a merger of my favorite Broadway and classic American tunes,” he explains on his website.  

Notes his Facebook post: “[The show] presents the acclaimed actor, singer and storyteller in his most electrifying role: concert performer.”

The tour has been well-received, including this accolade from The New Yorker: “Mandy Patinkin is in the business of showstopping. He’s a musical force of nature.”

Patinkin, whose first commercial was for Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats, has also starred in “Evita” and “Sunday in the Park with George.”

And, if you’re wondering why he abruptly quit the hit show “Criminal Minds,” he has a very candid answer. 

“It wasn’t the right fit. I made a choice I didn’t want to make. I pushed myself, thinking I needed more fame, more economic security,” he said, according to IMDb, adding that he was so disturbed by its content that it became destructive. O
