Join Moonlight Discovery Tour With Museum Of Discovery And Science

It’s an annual ritual — and one of Mother Nature’s finest hours.

From spring to early fall female sea turtles build nests, lay eggs and return to the ocean — leaving their precious offspring to hatch and find their way “home.”

It takes almost two months for the process to be complete and it’s not an easy journey for these baby sea turtles, according to the Sea Turtle Conservancy, which estimates only one in 1,000 turtles survives to adulthood.

The Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale is bringing their story to life in a program that will give participants an up-close look at this phenomenon.

“Your adventure begins at the Museum with a presentation about turtles and then continues at Fort Lauderdale Beach where Museum expert guides lead you to sea turtle nesting grounds,” notes the museum’s website. “We can’t guarantee a nesting sea turtle will be spotted on every walk, but when it happens, it’s a natural wonder you will never forget.”

The program is held on various days in June and July from 8 p.m. – 1 a.m. Participants must be at least 9 years old and be able to walk 1 to 2 miles in the sand. Masks are required.
