For Randy Colman, Community And Inclusion Are Key

Community is literally our middle  name,” says Randy Colman.

As Executive Director of the Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center, Colman wants people to know that the organization is open to everyone regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. And membership is not a requirement for program participation, in most cases.

“There is a misconception that you have to be Jewish to participate in our programs,” says Colman, who started at the JCC in 1994 and left in 2008 to work for the Union for Reform Judaism to open the 6 Points Sports Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina. He returned to become the Executive Director of the JCC in 2012.

“It was a difficult decision to leave, but I was glad I did because it gave me the opportunity to create the camp, which will be part of my legacy,” he says.

Community participation is important to Colman, who is involved in a number of local organizations, including the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce and the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl.

The JCC offers a range of programs and services for all ages and abilities – from early childhood programs and summer camps to Schwedelson programs for teens and adults with special needs.

For health enthusiasts, a fitness center and exercise classes are available. For culture lovers and active adults, there are lectures, classes and theater at the Sandler Center as well as the Judy Levis Markhoff BocaRaton Jewish Film Festival. The JCC also accepts gently used donations at its Resale Boutique in east Boca Raton.

But it’s the people who work for and support the organization who truly make a difference.

“Each day, I am blessed to be able to work with dedicated staff, our amazing board of directors, generous donors, sponsors and community partners” says Colman. “Without them, we wouldn’t have the ability to make the impact we make on a daily basis.”

Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center is located at 9801 Donna Klein Blvd., Boca Raton. For more information, call 561-852-3200 or visit levisjcc.org.
