Lead designer Jose Barni is passionate about many things — his clients and designs are at the top of the list.

Barni, as a young kid and an adult, learned a lot about carpentry, architecture and design from his late father, Ramon Barni, who started Custom Artisan Cabinetry (CAC) in 1985. 

“He was my mentor and my biggest inspiration,” says Barni, co-owner, alongside his brothers Enzo and Paolo. 

“He taught me how to develop my creativity and how to take inspiration from different places; it’s how I come up with new ideas constantly,” he adds. 

At CAC, Barni and his team’s mission is to put their clients first and treat each project with the specialty and attention to detail it deserves.

“It’s as if the projects were going in my home or my business and the clients are family that we treat like our own,” Barni says. “We’re not there just to sell a product, we’re there to provide value for the client and the extra level of care to get the project done the right way.”

His custom carpentry includes home entertainment centers, home offices, bars, kitchens and more. CAC does not outsource any part of its product, from the design to the manufacturing. 

“The work I do is exciting because each client is different so we never know the kind of requests we can get,” Barni says. “But that pushes me even more to be better and to get as creative as I can for them.”

One of Barni’s most rewarding experiences is conversations with clients. “I like the ability to sit with them first, compared to handing them a book of photos. That’s where we develop our relationship and where we can guide them on what’s truly going to work in their home or their business,” he says.

With 23 years in carpentry and design, Barni continues to have fun creating new projects. “I get to start each day with a challenge, knowing our designs will change someone’s life,” he says. “There’s nothing like it.”
