Mental Health Counseling

When you talk about leaders in the field of mental health, one name should come to mind — Holly Katz, PhD.

Since 2002, Dr. Katz has served as Clinical/Training Director at Faulk Center for Counseling, a nonprofit organization that provides free and low-cost counseling services to clients of all ages. Group, individual and family therapy using a variety of treatment modalities is offered by graduate students in training and volunteer mental health professionals under the supervision of licensed psychologists.

“Services are provided at our building in Boca Raton and at outreach programs in Palm Beach County schools and senior living residences/daycare centers,” says Dr. Katz. “Every week, I receive feedback from clients about how much our mental health services improved their lives.”

The center, in fact, was recently honored with the 2023 George Long Award for Nonprofit of the Year from the Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton. Dr. Katz has personally received numerous professional accolades, including “Outstanding Contributions to Psychology in the Public Interest” from the Florida Psychological Association.

Dr. Katz earned her PhD from Fordham University and previously worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as college counseling centers and even a maximum-security women’s prison.

“[At Faulk], we practice with the highest level of integrity, which is backed by our Nonprofits First Accreditation,” she explains. “Faulk Center began as the Center for Group Counseling, which relied almost exclusively on volunteers to operate.”

Although the center now has excellent, dedicated paid staff, volunteers continue to be an important part of Faulk.

“At the same time, to meet community demands, I needed to position our clinical team and our trainees to be able to treat more serious mental health disorders,” expresses Dr. Katz. “We attended advanced trainings and I worked with my senior leadership team to hire the best local clinical supervisors for our trainees, ensuring a top-notch training atmosphere for the next generation of mental health professionals.”

Dr. Katz lists the elevation of Faulk Center’s training program as her most valued accomplishment.

“Through our ever-expanding network of Faulk-trained alumni, our positive impact reaches even beyond the 2,000 clients we help annually,” she adds. “That makes me proud.”
